Role Title : MoonWalk London Marshal
Department : Fundraising
Reporting to : Abby Hill / Rachael Hopson / Tim Smith
Location : Clapham Common, London
Date & Time : Saturday 18th May, 8pm - Late
Why am I needed?
Walk the Walk’s MoonWalk London is a spectacular night. Thousands of people will dress the part as they walk the Full Moon (26.2 miles) or Half Moon Plus (15.1) to raise money, and to change the lives of people affected by breast cancer across the country. We’re getting involved as Walk the Walk are great friends of Tenovus Cancer Care. More details on the MoonWalk and Walk the Walk’s amazing work is here: https://walkthewalk.org/
This is similar to cheering people on at the London Marathon, though with more neon and at a more unique event! The bulk of the role would be the same, cheering people on, with some giving directions/helping them cross the busier roads which can’t be closed. Experienced support will be on hand throughout the night.
What will I be doing?
- Cheer on walkers
- Direct walkers / Help at busy junctions
What skills do I need?
- The needs are mainly physical: the role means standing for a few hours late in the day, from 8pm to around 12:00-12:30
- A willingness to follow instructions as they affect people’s safety, and be happy to get stuck in
How much time do I need to commit?
It’s a one-off event of about 4-5 hours (plus travel to and from Clapham Common)
What support will I be given?
- You’ll be provided with an event brief before the day
- You’ll be supported by the events team on the day and will be joined by hundreds of other volunteers too
What benefits can I expect?
- Warm drinks and a variety of healthy and entertaining snacks
- Neon T-shirt and cap which will be yours to keep
- A memorable night, the rewards of having played a meaningful part in the night’s adventure, and maybe even the inspiration to attempt the MoonWalk yourself – many do!
- The satisfaction of knowing you’re making a vital difference to lives of people living with breast cancer throughout the UK
Where will I be based?
London, Clapham Common, on Saturday 18th May, 8pm - midnight
How do I apply?
Please contact the Volunteer Development Team on 029 2076 8850 for an informal chat or e-mail [email protected] for an application form should you require one.

Our location means that we see the runners just after they’ve crossed Tower Bridge – a high point in every runner’s race. This is a great location for atmosphere and, because the route doubles back on itself, you’ll see them twice; first at mile 13 (half way!), and then at mile 23 to help give them the motivation they need to finish their last few miles!
