This group welcomes people with OCD and related disorders and the group is professionally led and meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
Support groups can potentially be a useful part of treatment. These groups provide a platform for mutual acceptance, understanding and setting of goals. People new to OCD can talk to others who have learned successful strategies for coping with the illness.
There are two kinds of groups. One is user-led, which means that it is run by a person with OCD or carer who has personal experience of the disorder. The other is professionally supported, which means that it is run by someone who has professional qualifications such as a Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Clinical Nurse, Counsellor or Social Worker. Both types of groups are able to provide effective support.
Groups can be open to people with OCD only, open to Carers/Friend/Families only, some are for women or men only, some are for over 60’s, etc. This information can be found on each group’s homepage on the OCD Action site.
If you are interested in starting up a support group, OCD Action will work with you to do so. We offer registered groups free webhosting and other services.
