Parc Adfer Community Benefit Fund

As part of their commitment to the local community, the North Wales Residual Waste Treatment Project (NWRWTP) Partnership (known as the Partnership) and Wheelabrator Technologies Inc (WTI) have pledged to fund a long term Community Benefit Fund – worth £230,000 a year - for communities in the Deeside area. Eligible wards are: Aston; Connah’s Quay Central, Golftyn, South, & Wepre & Goftyn; Queensferry; Sealand; Shotton East & Higher.

The fund supports projects that benefit the local environment. There are 5 priority areas:

  1. Renewable Energy
  2. Carbon Reduction
  3. Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling
  4. Biodiversity and Improvements to Local Environment Quality
  5. De-Carbonisation of Transport

National Lottery Heritage Fund:

Nature Networks Fund – Round 3

This programme from the Heritage Fund’, aims to improve the condition and resilience of Wales’ marine and terrestrial protected sites network,  It recognises the importance of these sites in helping achieve wider resilient ecosystems and the benefits they provide that can support a green recovery. Grants will range between £50,000 and £250,000 for projects up to 2 years.  The fund will support projects which:

  • Prevent further declines in species and habitat condition.
  • Support nature recovery.
  • Enhance capacity to adapt to the climate crisis.

The Nature Networks Fund will also support project development and capacity building for future nature recovery projects, as protection of sites is reliant on strong organisations, good governance and robust project planning. Projects

with active community involvement around protected sites, are encouraged. Applications will be accepted from all private landowners and organisations working with natural heritage in Wales, and two applications (one for capital project delivery and one for project development/capacity building) can be considered simultaneously.  The deadline for Round Three applications is 23 November 2023 (12 noon).

Tiny Forest Grants

Welsh Government, in co-operation with the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Earthwatch Europe are partnering to deliver Coetiroedd Bach. It’s an element of the National Forest being funded and developed by the government. The £2.6m fund (23/24 to 24/25) will help communities, public bodies, landowners, and those with management control of land, create Tiny Forests based on the principles developed by Japanese botanist Dr Akira Miyawaki. Grants are for a maximum of £40k  per site, but multiple sites may be included in an application to an upper grant limit of £250k. The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG)

Welsh Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund are partnering to deliver The Woodland Investment Grant. It’s an element of the National Forest Initiative. The £1.9 m fund (22/23) will help landowners, and those with management control of land, both create and enhance woodlands. Grants are between £40k and £250k

 

LANDFILL DISPOSAL TAX COMMUNITIES SCHEME
Grants are available to help communities living within 5 miles* of certain waste transfer stations or landfill sites take action for their local environment. The fund is open to any organisation for projects focusing on one or more of the following themes:

  • Biodiversity - activities that help native wildlife and restore, maintain and enhance natural habitats, create community green space
  • Waste Minimisation & Diversion of Waste from Landfill – activities that encourage prevention, re-use and recycling of waste, including food waste and composting initiatives
  • Wider Environmental Enhancements - bring wider community benefit through improving quality of place, e.g. create community green spaces, bring neglected and run-down areas back into community use, and maintain or improve community facilities, such as community halls

Grants of between £5,000 and £49,999 will be available for projects that meet criteria. There is also the opportunity to apply for an award to one Nationally Significant project - with a value of between £50,000 and £250,000.

The closing date for applications is 24th November 2023. Applications are being accepted now, and it is advisable to start applications well in advance of the deadline.

Local Places for Nature - Free Kits to Create a Community Garden

Keep Wales Tidy, the charity supporting a clean and safe Welsh environment, has got hundreds of free garden packages to give away to community groups and organisations. To make it as easy as possible for people to get involved, they’ve designed a choice of tailored packages:

  • Starter packages for community groups, has 3 options:
  • Development packages for community organisations, has 2 packages
    • Food Growing Garden – Involve the whole community in growing & harvesting their own produce
    • Wildlife Garden – Transform an unloved area into a garden that will benefit both nature and your community.

 

Each free package includes native plants, tools, and other materials. Keep Wales Tidy will handle the orders and deliveries, and their project officers will even provide support on the ground to help you create your new nature space.
