Key Regional Partnerships

With the reorganisation of the National Health Service in Wales and the establishment of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) covering North Wales the number of regional planning groups is increasing. The six Voluntary Councils in North Wales coordinate the representation of the sector on many of these groups. The main contact for this area of work is the Health and Social Care Facilitator.

Health Board

This body has ultimate responsibility for the planning and review of health services in North Wales. There are a number of non-executive members who sit on the Board and one of these members is responsible for reporting back to the voluntary sector and another is designated as a community member.

Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG)

The SRG is an advisory group which reports to the Health Board. There are six voluntary sector members on the SRG and they sit alongside representatives from other sectors including the Local Authorities.

Clinical Programme Groups (CPGs)

These planning groups are led by clinicians and cover all the key service areas in the Health Board. They include members from other sectors including the voluntary sector. Of the eleven CPGs the following have voluntary sector members:

  • Children and Young People
  • Mental Health and Learning Disability
  • Primary, Community and Specialist Medicine
  • Therapies and Clinical Support
  • Womens Services
  • Cancer, Palliative Medicine and Clinical Haematology

 Locality Groups

There are fourteen Locality Groups across North Wales, the majority chaired by GPs and covering areas with populations between 30-50,000. They include a mix of representatives from different sectors. Their aim is to develop, coordinate and review community-based services. There are three Locality Groups in Flintshire covering the following areas

  • Mold, Buckley and Caergwrle
  • Deeside
  • Holywell
