Volunteers

Volunteering2

Volunteering describes what people choose to do in their spare time, without pay, that benefits other people or contributes to the services or amenities within the community.

It's not just what you put in that counts, if you volunteer you have the chance to meet new people, learn new skills, to develop new interests, and to be part of the Community.

Volunteers are involved in a vast range of activities and projects from befriending to conservation work and contribute a huge amount to the daily lives of other people.

Out of Pocket Expenses

If you choose to volunteer you should receive “out of pocket” expenses from the group or organisation you volunteer with, this is to cover transport and other related costs.

Volunteering and Benefits

You can volunteer even if you receive benefits. There are rules about the number of hours you can volunteer so talk to a Project Officer about this or go here for more information about volunteering while on benefits.
